Information Principles for Individuals

Protecting your privacy
Protecting your privacy, along with your financial assets, is at the core of our business. You have chosen to do business with us, and we recognize our obligation to keep the information you provide to us secure and confidential.
Our commitment to protect your financial information will continue under the principles and guidelines described below.

Keeping your information secure
Keeping your financial information secure is one of our most important responsibilities. We value your trust and handle your information with care. Our employees access information about you when needed to maintain your accounts or otherwise meet your needs. We may also access information about you when considering a request from you for additional services or when exercising our rights under the law or any agreement with you.

We safeguard information according to established security standards and procedures, and we continually assess new technology for protecting information. Our employees are trained to understand and comply with these information principles.

Limiting employee access to information
We have policies and security procedures to limit employee access to personal client information to those employees with a business reason to know such information. Internal access and sharing of information about you within various service departments of the Bank occurs only to the extent appropriate to evaluate, structure and facilitate the services you have requested or to inform you of other financial services that may be of interest to you. We educate our employees about the importance of confidentiality and customer privacy through standard operating procedures, training programs and our code of ethics. We take appropriate disciplinary measures to enforce employee privacy responsibilities.

Collection, retention and use of information about you
We collect, use and retain information about you only where we reasonably believe that it will help administer our business or provide products, services and other opportunities to you. We collect information about you only for specific business purposes - and, upon your request, we will tell you the reason for asking for personal information. We use information to protect and administer your records, accounts, and funds; to comply with certain laws and regulations; to help us design or improve our products and services; and to understand your financial needs so that we can provide you with quality products and superior service.

Customer information we collect is categorized as the following three types: 1) Information you provide to us on applications and through other means, such as your assets, income or other debt; 2) Information from a consumer report, such as information regarding your credit worthiness or credit history; and 3) Information about your transactions with us or a non-affiliated third party, such as your account balance, loan payment history or debit and credit card usage.

Keeping information accurate
We have procedures to see that client information is maintained in a commercially reasonable manner so that it is accurate, current and complete. We also have procedures to see that requests to correct inaccurate or incomplete information are acted upon in a timely manner. If you ever find that your account information is incomplete, inaccurate or not current, please call us at (661) 281-0300 or write to us at San Joaquin Bank, 1301 17th Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301. We will correct any erroneous information as quickly as possible.

How - and why - information is shared
We limit who receives information and what type of information is shared. We share information with the goal of bringing you greater convenience and more choices. We may disclose non-public personal information about you as necessary to effect, administer or enforce transactions that you have requested or authorized, or in connection with servicing or processing a financial product or service you have requested or authorized. We may also disclose this information to maintain or service your accounts with us, or as otherwise described below. We do not sell customer information to any other company. We normally disclose information:

When it is necessary or helpful in completing a transaction;

To verify the existence and condition of your account for a third party, such as a merchant, another financial institution or a credit reporting agency;

To an account verification service if we close your account due to unsatisfactory handling, fraud, attempted fraud or criminal activity;

To comply with a law, regulation, legal process or court order which applies to us;

In response to an inquiry about sufficient funds to cover a check you have written;
When you authorize us to;

To other companies, financial institutions and networks which may be involved in processing your transactions;

To local, state and federal authorities, if we believe a crime may have been committed;

To paying agencies after the death or incapacity of a recipient or beneficiary of recurring direct deposit payments;

In response to requests by our regulatory agencies or requests by agents of the Bank, such as independent auditors, consultants and attorneys.

We occasionally receive medical information or health information about a customer, for example, if a customer applies for insurance through us. If we do receive medical or health information about a customer, we will not share it with anyone, except as necessary to maintain accounts, process transactions or provide services the customer has requested or initiated.

If we receive a subpoena or similar legal process demanding release of any information about you, we will generally attempt to notify you (unless we believe we are prohibited from doing so). Except as required by law or as described above, we do not share information with other parties, including government agencies.

Certain information, such as trust and fiduciary information, is subject to very strict limitations regarding the sharing of information, both internally and externally.

San Joaquin Bank does not share any customer information with third party marketers offering their products and services.

Maintaining confidentiality in our business relationships with other companies
From time to time we contract with other businesses to perform specific services in support of our products. When it is necessary to provide confidential customer information to a third party, we require each business to agree to safeguard nonpublic personal information regarding our customers in accordance with our own privacy policies.

Online Privacy Guidelines
Consolidation Sites. Please use caution when using consolidation sites. Consolidation sites are Internet sites that offer the ability to collect all of your personal information on one site. For example, you may be encouraged to provide consolidation sites your personal finance information, such as your NetTeller™ ID, Access ID, PC Password, or your PIN for NetTeller™ Internet Banking. NEVER PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION TO A SITE THAT YOU DO NOT RECOGNIZE AND FULLY TRUST.

YOU SHOULD KNOW: ALL transactions initiated by a consolidation site using access information you provide are considered to be authorized by you, whether or not you were aware of the specific transaction. The only sure way to revoke this authority is to notify us so that we can block your NetTeller™ account and issue you new access codes.

San Joaquin Bank is committed to making sure that your NetTeller™ Internet Banking is safe and secure. With our own security infrastructure in place, we are confident that access to your accounts is private and secure; we are unable to provide similar assurances for other web sites. While San Joaquin Bank works to protect your banking privacy, you also play a role in protecting your accounts. Only provide your NetTeller™ ID and PIN when your browser shows a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) connection directly to the NetTeller™ web site or to another site you have investigated and fully trust.

Protecting information online
Whether you are a current customer or just visiting us online, we safeguard the information you provide to us at HYPERLINK "http://www.sjbank.com" www.sjbank.com. How we use and protect this information is described below.

How we handle e-mail
We preserve the content of your e-mail, your e-mail address and our response so that we can more efficiently handle any follow-up questions you may have. We also do this to meet legal and regulatory requirements.

For secure transmissions, your e-mails to us should be sent using the e-mail link on the NetTeller™ web site.
Inquiries sent through the e-mail link on the NetTeller™ pages are secure and use Secure Socket Layer (SSL). Since our response back to you is not secure, we will not include confidential account information in the response. You may also call us at (661) 281-0300, write to us at San Joaquin Bank, Attn: NetTeller™ Dept., 1301 17th Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301 or visit our nearest branch office.

Protecting your online banking
When you bank online with us, we, along with the outside data processing companies we work with to bring these services to you, have access to information you provide during a NetTeller™ session. That information is retained in our system or in the system of the appropriate outside company, depending on what is required to serve you.

We use state-of-the-art Internet technology, supported by the outside companies we work with, to make online banking secure and to protect your personal information. We also require an ID and PIN to access your accounts.

You can also help maintain the security of your banking information by not sharing your ID or PIN with anyone, by changing your PIN regularly, and by remembering to sign off at the end of a NetTeller™ session.

Protecting your privacy online
Whenever you enter information during a NetTeller™ session, we use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology for transferring the data. This technology encrypts, or scrambles, your account information so it's virtually impossible for anyone other than San Joaquin Bank to read it.
